Advanced Classes for the Cruising Life

Advanced Sail Training For Couples

While Cruising the Florida Keys

Sail on a 41’ Morgan Out Island with Captain Jean and Captain Jeff. During your private charter learn as a team about how couples can sail together in harmony safely at night and in open ocean conditions. You will be taught by a couple with 60 years of combined sailing experience, as both Jean and Jeff are USCG licenced captains and ASA certified sailing instructors. Get a taste of the cruising lifestyle and enjoy the wonders of the Florida Keys while sailing in both protected waters and in the open ocean.

Each advanced trip is based on the weather and your goals. You will have the chance to sail in the deep clear waters of the Gulfstream, do nighttime watches, rig the boat for heavy weather and plan safe and cofortable passages. We will work at your pace, showing you how to plan for and react to conditions that might otherwise feel uncomfortable. The proxcimity of  calm water and safe anchorages to our training areas and all our advanced trips being private charters will allow us to ease you into offshore and nighttime  sailing experiences.

Men and women have individual learning and sailing styles which may cause conflict for a couple. One-on-one lessons from another couple will allow you to see things from different perspectives. Build your trust in each other as you sharpen your sailing skills. Jeff and Jean will demonstrate how a couple works together to take the drama out of living the dream.

Sample all that cruising has to offer, ranging from sunset cocktail parties on deserted tropic islands to the joys of sailing a cruising sailboat that has withstood the test of time. Earn ASA certifications including Advanced Coastal Cruising and Bareboat Chartering. Unique private instruction includes hands- on cruising training, voyage planning, open water crossings, night passages, making land fall on new islands, reading the water and much more. Learn how to best avoid heavy weather for the most pleasant trip.  Create your own dream yacht spreadsheet and planning guide with Jean and Jeff’s experience and assistance. You will learn how to manage the "island" that is a modern cruising sailboat.

Jean has been sailing since she was 12-years old, first on the Chesapeake Bay and then in the Caribbean on vessels ranging from sunfish to 80’ schooners. Jeff grew up sailing in the Florida Keys and the Bahamas and learned to visually pick through coral reefs before learning to drive a car. Jeff has been actively sailing for over 45 years, sailing as captain since the age of 15. Jeff and Jean have extensively cruised the Caribbean and Florida on Polyphonic their Skye 51.

Both Jeff and Jean hold 100 Gross Ton Masters Licences from the US Coast Guard and are ASA Certified Sailing Instructors. Jean is a Marine Surveyor, a member of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS) and is ABYC Standards Certified. Jeff holds an Electrical Engineering degree and has worked with almost all forms of electronic navigation from B-52 Inertial Navigation systems to modern integrated ARPA radars.
